BaT Auction: 22k-Mile 1979 Ferrari 308 GTS at No Reserve

This 1979 Ferrari 308 GTS was first sold through Algar Enterprises of Paoli, Pennsylvania, and remained with its original owner until 1994. It later spent time in California prior to its acquisition in 2016 by the selling dealer, who subsequently relocated the car to Canada and listed it on BaT in September 2020. Power comes from a carbureted 3.0-liter V8 paired with a five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential, and the car is finished in Rosso Chiaro over tan leather. Equipment includes a removable roof panel, air conditioning, power windows, 14″ Speedline wheels, and a gated shifter. A 30k-mile service was performed at 21k miles in 2016, which included a valve adjustment, recharging the air-conditioning system, and replacement of the timing belts, cam seals, tensioner bearings, distributor seals, and fuel tank breather hoses. This 308 GTS now shows just under 22k miles and is offered at no reserve in Blaine, Washington with factory books, original sales paperwork, a window sticker, service records from 1995 to the present, a tool kit and jack, a top panel cover, and a Washington title.

The Pininfarina-designed and Scaglietti-built steel bodywork is finished in Rosso Chiaro. Equipment includes US-market bumpers and side markers, a black removable top panel, and pop-up headlights that can be seen raised in the gallery below. Corrosion was repaired on the driver’s door in 1998, the left rocker panel was repaired in 2006, and the selling dealer notes evidence of prior paintwork on the hood. The driver’s door seal and engine lid struts were replaced in 2016. Touch-up paintwork is noted on the quarter panels and left-front fender.

Speedline 14″ wheels wear 205/70 Michelin MXV4 tires, and a full-sized spare wheel and tire are stored in the front trunk. Braking is handled by discs at all four corners.

The cabin features seats trimmed in tan Connolly leather, along with matching carpets and black trim on the dashboard, seat inserts, and door panels. Features include air conditioning, a vintage-look AM/FM radio with Bluetooth and an auxiliary input, power windows, and Ferrari-branded floor mats. An air-conditioning service was performed in 2016.

The leather-wrapped MOMO steering wheel frames Veglia instrumentation including a 180-mph speedometer, a 10k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows just under 22k miles, approximately 650 of which were added during current ownership.

The transverse 3.0-liter F106 AB V8 features quad Weber 40 DCNF carburetors and is said to retain factory emissions equipment. It was rated at 237 horsepower when new and was serviced in October 2016 by Dugan Enterprises of Oceanside, California, with a valve adjustment and replacement of the timing belts, cam seals, drive belts, tensioner bearings, distributor seals, and fuel tank breather hoses.
