This 1959 Porsche 356A 1600S is a Reutter-bodied coupe that is powered by a replacement 1.6-liter flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. The car is finished in ivory over a tan interior, and equipment includes 15” steel wheels, custom-mounted driving lights, a Le Mans-style fuel filler, leather Speedster-style seats, a Blaupunkt radio, and a Sebring exhaust system. The car was purchased by the current owner in 2020, and an oil change was recently carried out. This 356A is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with spare parts, partial service records, tool kit, the original engine case, a Kardex report, and a clean California title.
The Reutter-built body was refinished in red before being returned to the original Elfenbein during previous ownership. Equipment includes color-matched bumpers, driving lights custom-mounted into the body, a Le Mans-style fuel-filler cap, mesh headlight guards, leather hood straps, pop-out side windows, and custom “Outlaw” badging on the front fenders. The seller states that areas of rust on the floorboards and spare tire pan were repaired during previous ownership. Flaws include paint blemishes on the front fenders, pitting on the chrome, and touch-up paint on the lower corner of the passenger door.
15″ ventilated steel wheels are wrapped in 185/65 Goodyear Integrity tires. The lowered suspension features a replacement front axle crossmember, front sway bar, and Koni rear shocks. Braking is handled by four-wheel hydraulic drums.
The cabin features a body-color dashboard, tan square-weave carpets, Coco Mats, and Speedster-style seats upholstered in brown leather with white piping. Additional equipment includes lap belts, a glove box, a fire extinguisher, a Blaupunkt AM radio, and a dash-mounted Messerschmitt Junghans clock from a WWII BF109 fighter aircraft.
The two-spoke steering wheel features a leather cover and fronts green-letter VDO instrumentation consisting of a central 7k-rpm tachometer, a 160-mph speedometer, and a combination gauge for oil temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 6,100 miles, and the true mileage is unknown.
The trunk is equipped with a refurbished fuel tank, a spare wheel, and a tool kit.
The 1.6-liter flat-four was sourced from a 912. The oil was recently changed, and the cases reportedly leaves oil drops when the car is parked.
Engine stamping #747819 is depicted above, and the numbers-matching cases are included in the sale.
A Sebring exhaust system has been added, and additional photos of the underside are provided in the image gallery.
The Kardex lists the production date, factory colors, and powertrain numbers.
