This 1931 Studebaker Model 54 sedan was refurbished and modified for Toyo Tires by Choppin’ Block Chassis Products of Clovis, California, and was first shown at the 2008 SEMA show in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was subsequently used as a promotional vehicle for Toyo and Monster Energy before it was acquired by the current owner in 2014. The car features a chopped and channeled body finished in orange over black leather upholstery, and power comes from a 350ci V8 paired with a Powerglide two-speed automatic transmission. Additional modifications include a custom frame, an airbag suspension with dual compressors, four-wheel disc brakes, an Edelbrock carburetor and intake manifold, metal bucket seats, a tilting steering column, and a Lokar shifter. This Studebaker is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with a set of lake pipes, spare wheels and tires, partial service records, and a California title in the owner’s name.
The steel bodywork was channeled and the roof chopped 5″ up front and raked 4.5″ at the rear before a repaint was performed in BASF custom orange. Features include frenched tail lights, door poppers, Ford headlights, filled side window channels, a body-color radiator surround, and pinstriping. The black 15″ wheels are mounted with Toyo Hyparadial ST tires. Four spare wheels with Toyo tires are included in the sale. The car sits on a body-color custom chassis with stretched front and rear axles and features an airbag suspension with dual air compressors. Braking is handled by discs at all four corners with stainless steel lines.
The open-air cabin features fixed bucket seats that were integrated into the floor and wear black leather cushions. Black door panels and carpets are fitted along with front lap belts. Equipment includes front lap belts, a Lokar shifter, and a custom fuel tank mounted ahead of the rear window. The controller for the airbag suspension is fitted between the front seats and can control individual corners as well as front and rear lift.
The billet aluminum steering wheel is mounted on a tilt steering column ahead of a painted steel dash and inoperable factory instrumentation. A water temperature gauge is mounted under the dash, and the fuel tank features a glass sight. The seller notes play at the tilt mechanism on the column. The five-digit odometer is stopped at 37k miles, and total mileage is unknown.
The GM-sourced 350ci V8 features a body-color block and finned valve covers along with an Edelbrock carburetor and intake manifold. Open headers are currently fitted, and a set of lake pipes is included in the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Powerglide two-speed automatic transmission. the body-color twin air compressor tanks are mounted inside the frame and can be seen up close in the gallery. An air conditioning compressor is also fitted and is utilized as a backup pump.
