BaT Auction: 1980 Alfa Romeo Spider at No Reserve

This 1980 Alfa Romeo Spider is finished in metallic blue over tan leather and is powered by a 2.0L inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a tan soft top, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, power windows, and a Kenwood CD player. The car was reportedly purchased by the seller’s father in the 1980s, and the seller acquired it in 2015. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale. This Spider shows 117k miles and is now offered at no reserve with manufacturer’s literature, a car cover, and a California title in the seller’s name.

The body is said to have been refinished in metallic blue under previous ownership, and the tan soft top is a replacement that was reportedly installed in 2015. Equipment includes impact bumpers, Pininfarina badging, and polished trim. The seller notes that both door check straps are broken.

14″ Campagnolo Turbina alloy wheels wear 185/70 General Altimax RT tires that show 2014 date codes. A full-size spare is included in the sale.

The cabin features seats trimmed in tan leather with matching carpets and door panels. The aftermarket stereo system is comprised of a Kenwood CD player along with Pioneer speakers mounted in the kick panels and behind the seats. The driver’s seat upholstery is separating at several seams, and imperfections are noted in the gallery below.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames an 85-mph speedometer and an 8k-rpm tachometer. The six-digit odometer shows 117k miles, approximately 5k of which were added by the seller. Additional instrumentation in the center stack consists of gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature.

The 2.0L twin-cam inline-four features SPICA mechanical fuel injection. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale. The seller notes that the car will not pass California emissions and is registered as Planned Non-Operational.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission, and the seller states that downshifting into second gear causes grinding. Additional images of the underside are provided in the gallery below.
