BaT Auction: 1985 Ford F-250 XL Explorer at No Reserve

This 1985 Ford F-250 XL Explorer is a long-bed example finished in two-tone brown and tan over beige and is powered by a 7.5-liter V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. Equipment includes the front and rear sway bar package, air conditioning, dual fuel tanks, a CB radio, and an aftermarket rear bumper. The truck is said to have been sold new at Corning Ford in Corning, California, and was acquired by the seller from the original owner in August 2020. Service in April 2021 consisted of replacing the engine air filter in addition to an oil change. This F-250 shows 93k miles and is offered at no reserve with four keys, service records, manufacturer’s literature, a clean Carfax report, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The truck is finished in two-tone Desert Tan Metallic and Light Desert Tan and features chrome trim and white Ford letting on the tailgate. The seller reports that the truck was originally equipped for a slide-in camper, and wiring for the camper, a trailer brake module, and an aftermarket rear bumper with a trailer hitch have been installed. Blemishes on the bed and tailgate are shown up close in the gallery.

Factory 16″ wheels wear chrome hubcaps and Michelin X Radial LT tires. The truck is equipped with a Dana 44 Twin Traction Beam independent front suspension and the factory front and rear sway bar package.

The interior features a bench seat upholstered in beige vinyl with patterned vinyl inserts while wood veneers trim the instrument cluster, center console, and steering wheel. Amenities include cruise control, a CB radio, and an AM/FM stereo, which the seller notes is missing the slider lever for the audio balance.

The two-spoke steering wheel frames an 85-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 93k miles, approximately 100 of which were added by the seller.

The 7.5-liter 385-series V8 is fed by dual fuel tanks and was factory rated at 245 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. The engine air filter was replaced in addition to an oil change in April 2021.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed C6 automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. Additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery below.

The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in California beginning in June 1992.
