BaT Auction: 1993 Mercedes-Benz 300CE Sportline at No Reserve

This 1993 Mercedes-Benz 300CE is a Sportline example that was first registered in California, and it remained in the state through its acquisition by the seller in June 2010. The car is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic over gray leather and powered by a 3.2-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed automatic transmission, and features consist of a sport-tuned suspension, quick-ratio steering, aftermarket wheels, a Pioneer stereo, power-adjustable front seats with memory settings for the driver, and a leather-wrapped sport design steering wheel and shift knob. This C124 now shows under 99k miles and is offered at no reserve with a clean Carfax report and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The seller states that the exterior was refinished in its factory Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) with darker lower cladding and bumper trim to address clearcoat failure, and the front fender Sportline badges were removed. Equipment includes a heated windshield-washing system with headlight wipers, as well as chrome accents, power mirrors, dual exhaust outlets, and front and rear fog lights.

Aftermarket 18″ multi-spoke wheels are mounted with 225/40 Hankook tires, while a spare wheel mounted with a Michelin Pilot HX tire is stored below the trunk floor. Braking is handled by discs at all four wheels, and Sportline equipment includes a sport-tuned suspension with a lowered ride height as well as quick-ratio steering.

The interior features power-adjustable front seats and rear bench seat upholstered in gray leather (268) with a matching lower dashboard, door panels, and carpeting, while burl wood trim further accents the cabin. Equipment includes a power sunroof, folding rear headrests, a Pioneer stereo, and a Sportline shift knob. The seller reports that the climate control is currently inoperative and the fan motor operates intermittently, and wear is visible on the driver’s seat bolster.

The 390mm Sport Design steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with an integrated clock, as well as gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows under 99k miles, approximately 30k of which were added by the seller.

The 3.2-liter M104 DOHC inline-six was factory rated at 217 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission that features a first-gear start for Sportline models.

The Carfax report displays no accidents or other damage and lists registration, emissions, and service history in California between October 1993 and its most recent entry in August 2019.
