BaT Auction: Modified 1972 Ford Bronco

This 1972 Ford Bronco was acquired by the seller in November 2015 following refurbishment and modification under previous ownership. Work is said to have included removing the body from the frame followed by a repaint in yellow along with the installation of a fuel-injected replacement 302ci paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes black upholstery, a Dana 20 dual-range transfer case, a Dana 44 front axle, a 9″ rear end with 31-spline axles, an Auburn limited-slip rear differential, a Wild Horse lift kit with Fox remote-reservoir dampers, an aftermarket cross-over steering linkage with Heim joints, and a JVC CD player. A June 2020 service is said to have included replacement of fuel injectors and an engine oil change. This Bronco is now offered with a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The body is said to have been removed and refinished in the current shade of yellow under previous ownership, at which point the frame was refinished in silver. Features include a black bimini top, enlarged wheel openings with black Wild Horses fender flares, a black hood scoop, chrome side mirrors, quick-release door hinges, a fold-down windshield, projector HID headlights with billet-aluminum bezels, LED taillights, and an aftermarket rear bumper with a swing-away tire carrier. Finish flaws are noted and include paint chips on the grille and touched-up scratches on the bed rails.

Polished 15″ Pro Comp aluminum wheels are mounted with 33×12.50″ Goodyear Wrangler MT/R tires. A matching spare is mounted in the rear, and braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. The ride height has been raised with the use of a Wild Horses 4.5″ lift kit complemented by Fox remote-reservoir dampers and an aftermarket cross-over steering linkage with Heim joints.

The interior features aftermarket Procar Classic seats trimmed in black with a matching rear bench, dash pad, door panel inserts, and carpets. Interior amenities include a black-finished six-point family roll cage, front and rear lap belts, power steering, a center console with storage and cup holders, a Tuffy locking glovebox, and a JVC CD player.

An aftermarket steering wheel is mounted on a bright-finished tilt steering column that fronts a tachometer and a 100-mph speedometer with four integrated auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer indicates just under 3k miles. True mileage is unknown.

The original 302ci V8 has been replaced with a fuel-injected 302ci V8 reportedly sourced from a later-model Ford Mustang. A June 2020 service is said to have included the replacement of fuel injectors and an oil change.

Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a four-speed AOD automatic transmission, a dual-range Dana 20 transfer case with an aluminum Wild Horses cover, and on to a Dana 44 front axle and a “big bearing” 9″ rear end with an Auburn limited-slip differential, 31-spline axles, and 4.11:1 gearing. Seepage is noted from the front differential cover.
