BaT Auction: 1966 Rupp Twin-Engine Chaparral CS-2 Sprint Go-Kart at No Reserve

This Rupp Chaparral Sprint is a twin-engined go-kart that was acquired by the seller in 2001 and refurbished three years ago. A pair of 122.9cc McCulloch MC101AA two-stroke singles deliver power to 60-tooth rear drive sprockets via Horstman clutches with 10-tooth hubs. The chassis has been powder-coated red, and the adjustable black seat has been fitted with replacement stainless-steel snaps. Other features include Horstman mufflers, a seven-quart fuel tank, an adjustable steering column with a 12″ wheel covered in a snap-on pad, a replacement aluminum floor pan, four-wheel disc brakes with six calipers and dual master cylinders, and 5″ aluminum wheels with staggered spacers and slick tires. This Rupp kart is offered in California with a rolling starter stand and a bill of sale.

The frame has been powder-coated in red and the steering components, rear subframe, and seven-quart fuel tank are chrome, with the latter said to have been replated. The front number plate wears white gel coat with “77” decals.

Aluminum 5″ turbine wheels feature chrome outer halves and center caps, and are mounted on 1″ front and 2″ rear spacers. Staggered Vintage Speed slicks measure 11×3.50 up front and 11×6.00 at the rear.

Hydraulically operated Airheart 150 disc brakes are featured at both ends, and utilize dual master cylinders as well as a brake bias controller and two rear calipers with billet mounts per side. Stickers from Vintage Karting Association events in 2017 and 2018 are affixed to the right stainless steel tie rod, and the kart is said to have been raced once since completion of the refurbishment.

A black vinyl seat with front and side bolsters, adjustable backrest mounts, and stainless steel snaps supports the driver. The replacement aluminum floor pan and seat back are affixed with stainless-steel rivets. The 12″ Azusa steering wheel features adjustable placement and wears a snap-on padded cover over its spokes.

Both 122.9cc McCulloch MC101AA two-stroke singles are said to have two hours of run time since being overhauled. Each is fed by a Tillotson HL-304WXA alcohol carburetor mounted on a GEM V-12 reed intake manifold. Additional equipment includes Horstman box mufflers, GEM 1216 V-belt starter cups, and GEM chain guards. Horstman swing-axle engine mounts are coupled with Hegar 90° dovetail stuffer mounts. The engines are linked to the stainless steel rear axle via right-hand Horstman Rev-Grip dry clutches with Hi-Rev springs and 10-tooth needle-bearing hubs driving 60-tooth Horstman sprockets on billet aluminum drive hubs.

A rolling starter stand will accompany the kart.
