BaT Auction: 1973 BMW 2002tii 5-Speed

This 1973 BMW 2002tii was acquired by the seller’s father in 2020 and was subsequently refurbished and modified. The exterior was refinished in Baikal Blue Metallic, the interior was retrimmed with black upholstery, the suspension was overhauled, dual Weber carburetors were installed on the 2.0-liter inline-four, and a five-speed manual transmission sourced from a 320i model was fitted. Additional modifications include a Sherwood cassette stereo, Recaro front seats, and 14″ basketweave wheels. This 2002tii is now offered by the seller on behalf of his father with its removed Kugelfischer fuel-injection system components and a clean California title.

The body was reportedly refinished in Baikal Blue Metallic as part of the recent refurbishment of the car, and the seller states that the bumpers were rechromed as well. Orange peel and cracking are visible in the paint below the rear bumper, and close-up photos of the paint, lenses, and trim can be seen in the gallery.

Basketweave 14″ alloy wheels are wrapped in a mix of 195/60 Trazano H550A and Falken Ziex ZE512 tires. Braking is handled by power-assisted discs up front and drums at the rear, and the seller states that suspension components were replaced during current ownership.

The cabin features seating surfaces that were re-upholstered in black leather, and a replacement headliner, dashboard, and carpeting were fitted. Equipment includes a Sherwood cassette stereo, an analog clock, Recaro front seats, and crank windows.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation including a tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges, while Bosch gauges for oil pressure, temperature, and battery voltage are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 38k miles, approximately 1k of which were added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.

The 2.0-liter M10 inline-four was reportedly refurbished during current ownership and features twin Weber carburetors. The removed Kugelfischer mechanical fuel-injection system components are included in the sale.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission sourced from a BMW 320i. Additional photos of the underside are provided in the gallery below.
