BaT Auction: 32-Years-Owned 12k-Mile 1989 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet 5-Speed

This 1989 Porsche 911 Turbo cabriolet was acquired by the seller in late 1989 with approximately 7,500 miles on the odometer, and it now shows 12k miles. Finished in white over black leather, the car is powered by a turbocharged 3.3L flat-six mated to a five-speed G50 manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. Features include a black convertible soft top, a rear spoiler, 16″ Fuchs wheels, power-adjustable front seats, air conditioning, an aftermarket Alpine CD stereo, and power windows. Service since 2018 has included flushing the brake fluid, cleaning the fuel system, and replacing the steering shaft. This 930 is now offered with a convertible-top boot cover, a car cover, a spoiler cover, carpeted floor mats, a tool roll, manufacturer’s literature, service records, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Michigan title in the seller’s name.

The body is finished in Grand Prix White (P5) and features a manual black soft top with a matching boot cover. Equipment includes headlight washers, fog lights, a “tea-tray” rear spoiler, black stone guards, and rear bumperettes. The seller reportedly commissioned the application of a ceramic coating in 2018, and photos of the paintwork and trim are shown up close in the gallery below.

Forged 16″ Fuchs wheels feature black centers and are wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires that measure 205/55 in front and 245/45 at the rear. Braking for the 930 was provided by finned calipers and cross-drilled rotors all around. A brake-fluid flush was performed in August 2018, and an alignment was conducted most recently in May 2021.

The interior is trimmed in black partial leather (LE) with a matching dashboard, carpets, and door panels. Equipment includes power-adjustable front seats, an aftermarket Alpine CD stereo, air conditioning, and a leather-wrapped shift knob as well as power windows, power mirrors, and power locks.

A four-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel with a raised hub frames a central 7k-rpm tachometer, a 170-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and gauges for fuel level, oil level, oil temperature, oil pressure, and boost pressure. The six-digit odometer shows 12k miles, approximately 4,600 of which are said to have been added during the seller’s 32-year ownership.

The turbocharged 3.3-liter flat-six produced 282 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 289 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm when new. The fuel system was cleaned and the steering shaft was replaced during a May 2021 service at Fred Lavery Porsche of Birmingham, Michigan.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed G50 manual transaxle that was exclusive to the 1989 model and features an optional limited-slip differential. Additional photos of the underside are provided in the gallery.
