BaT Auction: 1991 BMW 318is 5-Speed

This 1991 BMW 318is is finished in red over black vinyl and powered by a 1.8-liter inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The car was acquired by the seller’s father in 2006, reportedly from the original owner. Equipment includes H&R Sport springs, Bilstein dampers, front fog lights, a sunroof, power windows, air conditioning, manually-adjustable sport seats, and a factory cassette stereo. Work performed in 2021 consisted of replacing the radiator, thermostat and housing, catalytic converter, and air conditioning compressor. This E30 shows 237k miles and is offered by the seller on behalf of their father with service records, a clean Carfax report and a clean Utah title.

The car is finished in Brilliant Red (308) and features an integrated front lip, fog lights, a metal sunroof, and a decklid spoiler. The left fender was replaced in 2011 after damage occurred while parked, and the left fog light was repaired in 2018. Paint cracking is visible on the rear spoiler.

Silver 15″ Ronal LS wheels wear BMW-branded center caps and 195/55 Michelin Premier tires. The suspension has been modified with H&R Sport springs and Bilstein dampers. A brake fluid flush was carried out in July 2019.

The cabin features seating upholstered in black leatherette with contrasting gray carpets. Amenities include power windows, manually-adjustable sport seats, a digital clock, air conditioning, and a factory cassette stereo. The left interior door handle and lock were replaced in July 2019, and the door lock actuator was cleaned and lubricated at the same time.

Instrumentation consists of a 150-mph speedometer and a tachometer along with gauges for coolant temperature, instant economy, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 237k miles, approximately 62k of which were added during current ownership.

The 1.8-liter M42 inline-four was rated at 134 horsepower and 127 lb-ft of torque when new. The windshield washer pump was replaced in 2018, a replacement battery was installed in 2019, and work in 2021 consisted of replacing the radiator, thermostat and housing, catalytic converter, and air conditioning compressor along with a air conditioning system recharge using R12 refrigerant.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. Additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery below.

The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in Kansas and Utah.
