BaT Auction: 32k-Mile 1989 Jaguar XJS V12 Convertible

This 1989 Jaguar XJS convertible is finished in blue over blue leather and powered by a 5.3-liter V12 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a power-retractable blue soft top, fog lights, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, heated and power-adjustable seats, cruise control, a trip computer, automatic climate control, and a cassette stereo. The car was reportedly first delivered to Georgia, and it resided in Ontario, Canada from 1989 until the early-2000s before returning to the US and spending time in Georgia, North Carolina, Arizona, and Maryland prior to the seller’s acquisition in 2019. This XJS shows 32k miles and is now offered with service records, manufacturer’s literature, a convertible top boot, an accident-free Carfax report, and a clean Pennsylvania title.

The car is finished in Solent Blue Metallic (JFJ) and features European-market headlamps, front fog lights, dual exhaust outlets, and a power-retractable blue soft top. Paint meter readings, as well as close-up photos of the trim, lights, and convertible top are featured in the gallery below.

Silver 15″ basketweave wheels are wrapped in 235/60 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. Equipment includes independent front and rear suspension as well as four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes. The front brake rotors, pads, and hoses were replaced in 2016 along with the rear brake pads, upper control arm bushings, upper ball joints, and sway bar links.

The cockpit is trimmed in Isis Blue leather, which extends from the seats to the door panels and center console, while burl walnut veneers accent the dashboard, center console, and doors. Amenities include automatic climate control, heated and power-adjustable seats, cruise control, a trip computer, and a Jaguar cassette stereo.

The wood-rimmed Momo steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline, and drum-style secondary gauges for voltage, fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The odometer shows 32k miles, of which approximately 250 have been added by the seller. A mileage inconsistency is noted on the Carfax report in 2003. True mileage is unknown.

The fuel-injected 5.3-liter V12 was factory rated at 262 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a GM TH400 three-speed automatic transmission. The transmission cooler hoses were replaced at approximately 30k miles in 2016. Additional images of the underside are available in the gallery below.

The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists registration and service history in Georgia, Ontario, North Carolina, Arizona, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. The aforementioned mileage inconsistency is noted in 2003.
