BaT Auction: 6,500-Mile 1991 BMW 850i 6-Speed

This 1991 BMW 850i was purchased new by the current owner on March 23, 1991, from Autohaus BMW in Clayton, Missouri. It was reportedly placed into storage in 1995 and remained there until it was recently retrieved. The car is finished in black over a Silvergray leather interior and is powered by a 5.0-liter V12 paired with a six-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes 16″ Style 8 wheels, a sunroof, dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable seats, air conditioning, and automatic stability control. Work carried out in anticipation of the sale consisted of replacing the batteries, fuel pumps, tires, filters, and fluids. This E31 has 6,500 miles and is now offered on dealer consignment in Missouri with service records, owner’s manuals, literature, a window sticker, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Iowa title.

The exterior is finished in black and features a sunroof, pop-up headlights, fog lamps, and quad exhaust outlets. The car was polished and cleaned after its retrieval from storage, and photos of the car prior to cleaning are provided in the gallery.

Factory 16” Style 8 alloy wheels are equipped with BMW center caps and were recently fitted with BFGoodrich G-Force Comp 2 A/S tires. BMW’s Automatic Stability Control plus traction was optioned, and a brake fluid flush was recently performed.

The interior is trimmed in Silvergray leather (0351) with matching carpets and door panels. Amenities include power-adjustable seats with integrated safety belts, as well as automatic climate control, power windows, and cruise control. The radio is said to power on but emits no sound.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 190-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer, along with gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The digital odometer has 6,500 miles, all added during current ownership.

The 5.0-liter V12 was factory-rated at 296 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. Service carried out by Bimmers ‘R’ Us of St. Louis, Missouri in anticipation of the sale consisted of replacing the fuel pump, batteries, filters, and fluids.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. Additional photos of the underside are available in the gallery.

The window sticker lists original delivery to Autohaus BMW along with factory colors, optional equipment, and a total suggested retail price of $78,800.

The Carfax report contains two entries from 1991 and 1998 and shows no accidents or other damage. The second entry is a recall notice related to the radiator cap.
