BaT Auction: 1968 Porsche 911 Coupe 2.4L

This 1968 Porsche 911 is a red-over-black coupe that was reportedly owned by California show-car builder Willy Stryker, who modified it with flared rear fenders and a louvered rear panel. It was acquired by the seller in 2017, and subsequent work included installation of a 2.4-liter flat-six, refreshing the Type 901 five-speed manual transaxle, and overhauls of the suspension, brake, and fuel systems. Equipment includes a 911R replica steering wheel, 16″ Fuchs wheels, sport seats, dual Weber carburetors, Turbo-specification tie rods, vented disc brakes, and Simpson lap belts. This 911 is now offered with a Porsche Production Specifications certificate and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The bodywork was modified during prior ownership with a louvered rear panel as well as flared rear fenders, and the body was subsequently repainted in its current red. Additional modifications include black window trim, yellow headlights, and 1972-specification mirrors, along with ‘911T’ and ‘2.4’ badging. Replacement windows and seals were installed during current ownership.

16″ Fuchs wheels are finished in black and wear Toyo Proxes tires measuring 205/55 up front and 245/45 out back. Stopping power is provided by vented discs at all four corners, and the car is equipped with Turbo-specification tie rods and Bilstein rear dampers.

The cabin features sport seats upholstered in black vinyl with perforated inserts, and the matching carpets are protected by patterned Coco floor mats. The rear seats and radio have been removed, Simpson seatbelts are fitted for both front occupants, and the dashboard is accented by twin racing stripes. The headliner, sun visors, and switchgear were replaced during current ownership.

The 911R replica steering wheel features white stitching and frames VDO instrumentation including a central 8k-rpm tachometer, a 150-mph speedometer, auxiliary gauges, and a clock. The five-digit odometer shows 56k miles, approximately 500 of which were added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The replacement 2.4-liter flat-six is equipped with dual Weber carburetors and was reportedly rebuilt to 911S specifications during current ownership. Equipment includes Carrera-style chain tensioners, SSI heat exchangers, and a 100-liter fuel tank. Service performed in preparation for the sale included replacement of ignition components, a valve adjustment, and fluid changes.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement five-speed manual 901 transaxle with a dog-leg first gear, and the transaxle was overhauled and the clutch components were replaced during current ownership. Additional photos of the underside are provided in the gallery below.
