BaT Auction: 1998 Lamborghini Diablo SV

This 1998 Lamborghini Diablo SV was first registered in Texas and moved to California in 1999 before it was acquired by the seller in 2021. The car is finished in red over tan leather upholstery, and power comes from a mid-mounted 5.7-liter V12 that sends power to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. Features include black SV graphics, 18″ OZ Racing multi-piece wheels, Brembo brakes, an adjustable rear wing, and a gated dog-leg shifter. A September 2020 engine- and transmission-out service included the installation of new belts, spark plugs, and a Kevlar clutch, as well as a valve adjustment. This Diablo SV is now offered with removed exhaust system components, recent service records, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The 1998 model year was the final Diablo to feature pop-up headlights, and the SV featured a rear-wheel-drive layout in addition to model-specific side graphics. This example is finished in Rosso Luc. Dir. (PPG 41075) and features scissor doors, an adjustable rear wing, black taillight and rear grille surrounds, quad exhaust outlets, and fog lights. The pop-up headlights can be seen raised in the gallery. The January 2004 damage report on the Carfax report indicates that the car was inspected after an accident or other incident, with further details not provided.

The three-piece 18″ OZ Racing aluminum alloy wheels feature polished lips along with black centers with SV logos. They are mounted with 245/35 front and 335/30 rear Pirelli P Zero Rosso tires. The suspension features a hydraulic front lifting system as well as double coilovers at the rear. Braking is handled by black-finished Brembo calipers over drilled rotors. The brake system was bled by Franco’s European Sports Cars of Van Nuys, California, in September 2020.

The cockpit features seats trimmed in tan leather along with a matching center console, door panels, and carpets. Features include power windows, automatic climate control, an Alpine head unit, and a gated shifter.

The leather-wrapped airbag steering wheel frames white instrument dials including a 220-mph speedometer, a 9k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil temperature and pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 35k kilometers (~22k miles), 400 of which were added by the seller.

The 5.7-liter V12 received valve timing management for the 1998 model year and produced 530 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque when new. A September 2020 engine-out service by Franco’s European included the installation of new belts and spark plugs as well as a valve adjustment. Photos taken during the service can be seen in the gallery.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle and a ZF limited-slip differential. A Kevlar clutch was installed during the September 2020 service. A catalytic converter and muffler have been removed, and both are reportedly included in the sale.

The Carfax report shows history in Texas and California from October 1998 to July 2021 along with the 2004 damage report.
