This 1966 BMW R60/2 was sold new by ABT Motorcycle in Chicago, Illinois and acquired by the seller in 2020, reportedly from its previous owner of 30 years. The bike is finished in black with white pinstripes and powered by a numbers-matching 594cc opposed twin paired with a four-speed transmission. Features include shaft drive, an Earles fork, Denfeld solo seat and luggage rack, a fuel tank storage compartment, Hella bar end signals, and both center and side stands. Recent maintenance included a replacement Blitz battery, a fluid changes, valve adjustments, and re-torqued cylinder heads. This R60/2 is offered at no reserve with a tool kit and a clean South Carolina title in the seller’s name.
Bodywork is finished in black with white pinstriping. Equipment includes a Denfeld solo seat and luggage rack, five-gallon sport fuel tank, locking storage compartment, a hinged rear fender, Hella bar end turn signals, and center and side stands.
Wire-spoke 18″ wheels wear older Continental tires. Suspension consists of an Earles fork up front as well as dual shocks mounted out back to the swingarm on the left and the final drive enclosure on the right. Braking is from drums at both ends.
A 120-mph speedometer is mounted in the headlight bucket and contains a five-digit odometer showing 36k miles, approximately 400 of which have been added by the seller.
The 594cc opposed twin was factory rated at 30 horsepower. Equipment includes twin Bing carburetors, a chrome dual exhaust system with a crossover pipe, and a Blitz six-volt battery. The oil slingers were reportedly replaced and the engine re-sealed during prior ownership. More recent work is said to have included changing the fluids, adjusting the valves, and re-torquing the cylinder heads. Power is sent to the rear wheel through a four-speed transmission and a shaft drive with a 25/8 final drive ratio.
Engine stamping 628939 matches the castings on the frame and headstock plate as shown in the gallery below.
