BaT Auction: 1973 International Harvester Scout II

This 1973 International Harvester Scout II is powered by a 345ci V8 paired with a BorgWarner T18 four-speed manual transmission and dual range transfer case. It is finished in white with a removable green hardtop over a beige interior, and features include a suspension lift, roof-mounted luggage rack, a rear ball hitch, manually-locking front hubs, and 15” steel wagon wheels. A repaint was reportedly performed approximately three years ago, while more recent work carried out by the seller consisted of a tune-up. This Scout II is being offered with partial service records and a clean Utah title.

The truck is said to have been repainted its current shade of white approximately three years ago, and the door seals were reportedly replaced at that time. Exterior features include a removable metallic green hard top with a roof-mounted luggage rack and sliding side windows, a rear ball hitch, a chrome front bumper, and a silver-painted rear bumper. Corrosion is noted on the underside of the doors and in the lower inside corners of the door jambs.

White-painted 15” steel wagon wheels feature locking front hubs and are mounted with 235/75 Firestone Winterforce tires. The suspension has been lifted and replacement leaf springs installed per the seller, who also notes that the brake master cylinder and booster were replaced during prior ownership.

The cabin features seats trimmed in beige vinyl with matching door panels and floor coverings. The seller reports that the radio is inoperable and the under-dash air conditioner is disconnected. Tears on both front seats have been repaired with duct tape, and patterned covers are included in the sale. A puncture in the headliner can be seen up close in the gallery below.

A three-spoke steering wheel with a lace-up cover sits ahead of a 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows just under 5k miles, around 100 of which have been added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 345ci V8 features a single carburetor and was factory rated at 182 horsepower. A tune-up was performed by the seller, who notes that the radiator, starter, and spark plugs are newer items.

Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a BorgWarner T18 four-speed manual transmission and two-speed transfer case. The clutch was reportedly replaced during previous ownership, along with the front and rear differential seals. Corrosion on the frame is noted by the seller, and additional underbody photos are provided in the gallery below.
