BaT Auction: 1978 International Harvester Scout II 4×4

This 1978 International Harvester Scout II was acquired by the selling dealer in June 2021 following a refurbishment in 2020 that reportedly included a repaint in blue and refreshing the cabin. Power comes from a 345ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission and dual-range transfer case, and equipment includes a white removable hardtop, chromed 15″ wheels, manually locking front hubs, power-assisted front disc brakes, an aftermarket center console, a heater, and a push-button radio. This Scout II is now offered by the selling dealer with a clean North Carolina title.

The body is said to have been refinished in blue during 2020 and features a matching grille and fender flares, a white removable Travel Top and bumpers, aftermarket headlights, chrome side mirrors, and dual exhaust outlets. Close-up images showing the badging, lighting, and trim are included in the gallery below.

Aftermarket 15″ wheels are finished in chrome and mounted with 31×10.50″ Yokohama Geolander A/T tires with raised white lettering. Manually locking hubs are featured up front, and braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.

The interior is said to have been refurbished during previous ownership and is equipped with front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in blue cloth and vinyl. Metal surfaces are finished in the body color, and additional features include black carpets, an aftermarket center console with storage and cupholders, front and rear lap belts, a heater, and a push-button radio. The remains of the production line-setting ticket are shown on the inside of the glove compartment lid in the gallery below.

A black three-spoke steering wheel fronts a 100-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer indicates just under 76k miles, approximately 500 of which were added by the selling dealer, and true mileage is unknown.

The 345ci V8 features a two-barrel carburetor and was factory rated to make 161 horsepower and 292 lb-ft of torque. An oil leak is noted.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Additional images and a video showing the condition of the underside are included below.
