BaT Auction: 46k-Mile 1997 Land Rover Defender 90 NAS

This 1997 Land Rover Defender 90 is #662 of approximately 2,800 North American Specification examples imported into the US for the model year. The truck is finished in AA Yellow over Slate Gray vinyl and is powered by a 4.0-liter V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Equipment includes an external roll cage, a front brush guard, 16″ five-spoke alloy wheels, air conditioning, and a CD stereo. The truck spent time in Pennsylvania and Florida before being acquired by the current owner in Washington, D.C. in 2001. This D90 NAS has 46k miles and is now offered on dealer consignment with service records, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Delaware title.

The aluminum body is finished in AA Yellow and features a black soft top and black wheel arch flares. The NAS model featured an internal/external roll cage from the factory, and additional equipment includes a front brush guard, taillight protection, side steps, and a receiver hitch. Torn seams on the rear of the soft top and blemishes on the right side mirror are shown up close in the photo gallery.

Factory 16″ five-spoke alloy wheels are wrapped in 265/75 BFGoodrich Radial All-Terrain T/A tires, and a matching spare is mounted at the rear. Braking is from power-assisted discs all around, and the rear pads were replaced in 2018.

The front bucket seats are upholstered in Slate Gray vinyl and are joined by a gray dashboard and door panels. Cabin features include air conditioning, a CD stereo, a locking center console, and a folding rear bench seat. Corrosion is visible on the floor pan seams beneath the floor mats and wear is visible on the lower dash and center console trim.

The two-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The digital odometer has 46k miles, approximately 19k of which were added under current ownership.

The 4.0-liter V8 was factory rated at 182 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque.

Power is sent to all four wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission and a full-time four-wheel-drive system with a dual-range transfer case. The muffler was replaced in 2017.

The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists registration history in Pennsylvania, Florida, Washington, D.C., and Delaware.
