BaT Auction: Fuel-Injected 1959 Chevrolet Corvette 4-Speed

This 1959 Chevrolet Corvette is finished in black with silver coves and stripes over a red interior and is powered by a 283ci V8 that has been fitted with Rochester fuel injection and mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Features include Bilstein shocks, a driver-side mirror, a body-colored hardtop, and a heater/defroster. This C1 Corvette is now offered by the seller on behalf of his father in Rancho Mirage, California with copies of magazines that featured the car, an NCRS judging manual, parts books, service records, and a clean Arizona title.

The fiberglass body is finished in black with silver coves and features a body-colored hardtop, silver center stripes with red accents, red #59 number decals, Mobil Pegasus fender decals, and fuel injection fender badging. Additional details include quad headlights, chrome bumpers and trim, a driver-side mirror, and dual exhaust tips exiting through the rear bumpers. The previous side-exit exhaust outlets have been fitted with steel covers, and the seller notes a clear lacquer has been sprayed over the body. Chips and scratches are shown in the gallery, and a black soft top is included in the sale.

Black 15” steel wheels wear chrome covers with faux knockoffs and are mounted with 215/75 Michelin X Radial tires. The car is fitted with Bilstein shocks, a heavy-duty front sway bar, and drum brakes at all four wheels.

The interior houses bucket seats trimmed in red upholstery in addition to matching carpeting and two-tone door panels. Equipment includes lap belts, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, and a heater/defroster. Signatures from Bob Bondurant, Bill Thomas, Dick Guldstrand, Zora Arkus-Duntov, and Joe Freitas are present on the center console.

A three-spoke steering wheel fronts a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 37k miles, around 1,500 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 283ci V8 was modified with a Rochester fuel-injection system during previous ownership and features finned aluminum valve covers and a 12-volt Delco-Remy starter. Fluid changes are said to have been performed in September 2021. A photo of the Rochester serial number is viewable in the gallery.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Additional underside images are also shown in the gallery.

Magazines featuring the vehicle as well as an NCRS judging manual, parts books, and service records are included in the sale. The car was featured on the cover of On Solid Ground and was also in Vette magazine.

The car is titled using VIN J595102889, which utilizes the chassis number shown above but uses a “5” in place of the “S.”
