BaT Auction: 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split-Window Fuelie 4-Speed at No Reserve

This 1963 Chevrolet Corvette coupe was produced on October 26, 1962, and delivered new to J.V. Baldwin Motor Company of Los Angeles, California. The car is finished in Daytona Blue over Saddle leather and is powered by a numbers-matching fuel-injected 327ci V8 paired with a four-speed manual transmission and Positraction rear axle. Equipment includes a split rear window, retractable antenna, turbine-style wheels, Coker Classic redline tires, manual four-wheel drum brakes, and a vertical Delco radio. The car is said to have spent time in California and Texas before being acquired by the seller in 2017. Subsequent service consisted of rebuilding the Rochester fuel injection system and replacing the clutch and exhaust system as well as a tune-up and valve adjustment. This split-window C1 is offered at no reserve with an NCRS shipping data report and a clean Nebraska title in the seller’s name.

The fiberglass bodywork is said to have been repainted in Daytona Blue (916A) during previous ownership and features a split rear window along with a driver-side mirror, concealed headlights, vents on the rear pillars, cast rocker accents, chrome bumperettes, and dual exhausts that exit through the rear valance. The seller notes a crack in the body near the passenger side door and rock chips on the front end as shown in the gallery.

The 15″ turbine wheels are fitted with faux knock-off covers which conceal lugnuts and are mounted with 185-width Coker Classic redline tires. The C2 was the first Corvette to offer fully independent suspension, with upper and lower control arms at the front and a three-link setup with a transverse leaf spring at the rear. Braking is handled by manual drums at all four corners. The spare tire is missing, and the jack is not correct for this model.

The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in Saddle leather as well as matching door panels, side panels, and carpets. Equipment includes lap belts, a vertically mounted Delco push-button radio, and a clock.

The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 42k miles, approximately 200 of which have been added by the seller since 2017.

The numbers-matching 327ci L84 V8 came equipped with Rochester Ramjet fuel injection, mechanical valve lifters, Duntov camshaft, and was factory rated at 360 horsepower and 352 lb-ft of torque. The Rochester fuel injection system is said to have been rebuilt, and the exhaust system was reportedly replaced. A tune-up and valve adjustment were completed during current ownership.

Engine stamping 102375 matches the last six digits of the vehicle’s chassis number. The RF suffix corresponds with a 327ci/360 hp fuel-injected V8 paired with a four-speed manual transmission.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a Positraction rear axle.

An NCRS Shipping Data report accompanies the car sale and shows the production date, dealer code, and receiving dealer information.
