BaT Auction: 1970 Volkswagen Type 2 Westfalia

This 1970 Volkswagen Type 2 Westfalia is a pop-top Campmobile that is said to have been previously owned by the seller’s aunt. Power comes from an air-cooled 1.6L flat-four equipped sending power to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transaxle. The van is finished in Delta Green over a white-and-brown interior equipped with a pop-up roof, captain’s chairs upholstered in white, benches finished in plaid cloth, a fold-down rear bed, a sink, and a refrigerator unit. This VW Campmobile is now offered in Florida with service records and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.

The ‘bay window’ bus body is finished in Deltagruen (L610) with white bumpers and a matching front-hinged pop-up top. Exterior equipment includes sliding side windows, a rear-window defogger, rear vents, and dual chrome-finished side mirrors.

White-painted 14” steel wheels wear polished VW hubcaps and are mounted with National XT4000 tires. The wheels show signs of corrosion on the outer lips.

The forward cabin features seating surfaces upholstered in white along with matching door panels and a black dashboard. Equipment includes a rubber footwell liner and crank windows.

A two-spoke steering wheel is wrapped in an aftermarket cover and fronts VDO instruments including a 90-mph speedometer and a fuel gauge with inset warning lights. The five-digit odometer shows 64k miles.

The right-rear door opens to reveal a camper area. Amenities include a bench seat trimmed in white-and-brown plaid cloth that folds into a bed, a jump seat, a fold-out table, a refrigerator, a sink, a pop-up camper top with zip-open flaps, wood paneling with storage areas, and beige window curtains.

The 1.6-liter air-cooled flat-four was rated at 47 horsepower when new and sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. The seller states the fluids were changed and the battery was replaced in preparation for the sale.
