BaT Auction: 1978 International Harvester Scout II

This 1978 International Harvester Scout II is finished in yellow with white graphics and is powered by a 345ci V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission and dual-range transfer case. Equipment includes a removable hardtop, white 15″ wheels, manually-locking front hubs, chrome bumpers and trim, a roof rack, power-assisted front disc brakes, a heater, and a JVC CD stereo. The truck was acquired by the current owner in 2017, and the battery was replaced in preparation for the sale. This Scout II is offered by the selling dealer on consignment with a copy of the line setting ticket and a clean New Hampshire title.

The truck is said to have been refinished in Siam Yellow during previous ownership and features a white and yellow removable hardtop. Additional exterior details include a roof rack, chrome bumpers and trim, white Rallye-style decals, body-side moldings, and dual exhaust outlets. Blemishes in the paint are documented in the gallery below.

White 15″ steel wheels are mounted with 31×10.50″ BFGoodrich All Terrain Baja Champion tires with raised white lettering. Manually-locking hubs are equipped up front, and braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. A spare tire is located in the cargo area of the truck.

The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in tan vinyl, which are complimented by brown carpeting and a green dash, door panels, and center console. Amenities include front and rear lap belts, burl wood trim, a heater, and an aftermarket JVC stereo.

A green three-spoke steering wheel frames a 100-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, voltage, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 85k miles, approximately 500 of which were added during current ownership. True mileage is unknown.

The 345ci V8 features a two-barrel carburetor and was factory rated at 161 horsepower and 292 lb-ft of torque. The battery was replaced in preparation for the sale.

Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a TorqueFlite 727 three-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Additional images of the underside are included below.

The line-setting ticket shows a production date of March 8, 1978 and lists factory options and equipment.
