BaT Auction: 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 Race Car

This 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 is one of approximately 100 track-only examples produced between 2011 and 2014. It is said to have been campaigned for part of the 2015 Pirelli World Challenge season and spent time in Puerto Rico and Florida before it was purchased by the seller in 2018 and subsequently placed on display in his company’s office in Texas. The car is finished in white with a custom livery, and power comes from a 6.2-liter V8 paired with a six-speed sequential transaxle and a limited-slip differential. Features include a carbon-fiber front splitter, gullwing doors, an adjustable rear wing, a rear diffuser, a single-carbon fiber racing seat with a six-point harness, a roll bar, a fire-suppression system, a 31.7-gallon carbon-fiber-reinforced fuel tank, and an onboard air jack system. This SLS AMG GT3 is now offered in Leander, Texas, with a collection of spare parts, spare wheels, and a bill of sale.

The SLS AMG utilizes an aluminum spaceframe chassis and bodyshell. The GT3 variant features 2″ wider bodywork than the road car as well as a carbon-fiber splitter, tow hooks, fender vents, cowl-mounted electrical cut-off switches, dual side-exit exhaust, a hood with a central cooling air outlet, side skirts with cooling channels for the rear brakes, a rear diffuser, and an adjustable rear wing. This example is finished in white and features a custom livery advertising the seller’s company.

The 18″ AMG aluminum center-lock wheels are mounted with Continental ExtremeContact DR tires. A set of matching spare wheels with Pirelli tires is included in the sale and can be seen in the gallery. The SLS AMG GT3 features a forged-aluminum control-arm suspension setup with adjustable track, camber, ride height, damper compression, and rebound settings. A rack-and-pinion steering system with a revised ratio was also standard. Stopping power is provided by an anti-lock braking system with Brembo six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers over slotted steel rotors.

The cockpit features a single fixed-back carbon-fiber seat with a Schroth Racing six-point harness. Additional equipment includes a full roll cage, a fire-suppression system, and a carbon-fiber dashboard, door panels, and center console. A 2015-dated SCCA Pro Racing Passport tag is riveted to the passenger door frame and can be seen in the gallery.

The removable multi-function steering wheel features an Alcantara-wrapped rim and fronts a Magneti Marelli datalogger. The digital odometer is said to show approximately 4,295 kilometers (~2684 miles). The car is said to have been run once under the seller’s ownership at open event day at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

The aluminum 6.2-liter M159 V8 features dry-sump lubrication and was factory rated at 600 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque in SLS AMG GT3 specification.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential transaxle and a limited-slip differential. The underside features smooth carbon-fiber aero panels fitted fore and aft. An onboard air jack system and a 31.7-gallon carbon-fiber-reinforced fuel tank were standard equipment on the SLS AMG GT3.
