BaT Auction: 21k-Mile 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster

This 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster is one of 823 US-market examples produced for the model year and is finished in black over a matching leather interior. Power is provided by a numbers-matching 3.2-liter flat-six paired with a G50 five-speed manual transaxle, and additional equipment includes a black soft top, a fiberglass top boot, a Blaupunkt Reno cassette stereo, air conditioning, power-adjustable seats, cross-drilled brake rotors, and 16″ Fuchs wheels. The car has spent time in California, Virginia, and Texas, and now shows just under 21k miles. This Speedster is offered on consignment by the selling dealer on behalf of the current owner with an air compressor, a tonneau cover, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Texas title.

The Speedster shares its widened rear bodywork with the 911 Turbo and features a unique shortened windscreen and side windows along with a double-bubble fiberglass top boot. This example is finished in black and features a black soft top, fog lights, power-adjustable side mirrors, and rear stone guards. Scratches are noted on the plastic rear window, and photos showing paint meter readings are viewable in the gallery.

Staggered-width 16” Fuchs forged wheels feature black centers with polished lips and are mounted with 205/55 front and 225/50 rear Michelin Pilot Exalto tires. Braking is handled by black Porsche-script calipers over cross-drilled rotors at all four corners.

The cabin features power-adjustable seats trimmed in black leather and joined by matching door panels and carpets. Amenities include air conditioning, a Blaupunkt Reno cassette stereo, cassette tape storage, and Porsche-branded floor mats. Fading is visible on interior trim.

A leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel frames a central tachometer with a 6,300-rpm redline, a 170-mph speedometer, a clock, and combination gauges. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows just under 21k miles.

The numbers-matching air-cooled 3.2-liter M930/25 flat-six features Bosch fuel injection and was factory rated at 215 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. A tune-up was performed approximately 100 miles ago in January 2015 at Mark Cooke’s Euroclassics in Midlothian, Virginia.

The engine block bears serial number *64K05845*, which matches the PCSS documentation provided in the gallery below.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a G50 five-speed manual transaxle. Additional underside photos are viewable in the gallery.

The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in California, Virginia, and Texas history from its first entry in June 1991.
