BaT Auction: 4,700-Mile 2001 Ducati 748 at No Reserve

This 2001 Ducati 748 is finished in red over a silver trellis frame and is powered by a 748cc L-twin paired with a six-speed transmission. Equipment includes a solo seat, adjustable Showa suspension, a dry clutch, a single-sided swingarm, a Termignoni underseat exhaust with carbon-fiber mufflers, 17″ wheels, and triple Brembo disc brakes. The bike was acquired by the seller in 2020, reportedly from its original owner who had last registered it in 2014. Work under current ownership has included replacing the timing belts and tires along with oil, coolant, and clutch fluid changes. This 748 has 4,700 miles and is now offered at no reserve with a tool kit, service records, two keys, a rear stand, and a clean Washington title in the seller’s name.

The bike is finished in red with silver accents over a silver-finished tube-steel trellis frame. Details include a black solo seat, a red passenger pillion, an integrated clear windscreen, and a side stand. A taillight bulb was replaced in October 2021. A rear stand is included in the sale.

Three-spoke 17″ wheels were mounted with Michelin Pilot Powers tires in October 2020. The adjustable Showa suspension is comprised of an inverted fork as well as a single-sided swingarm connected to a monoshock with a piggyback reservoir. A pair of Brembo discs handle braking up front, and a single unit is equipped at the rear.

Instrumentation consists of a 180-mph speedometer, a 13k-rpm tachometer, and an engine temperature gauge which sit ahead of an adjustable steering damper and clip-on handlebars. The five-digit odometer indicates 4,700 miles, 500 of which have been ridden by the seller.

The liquid-cooled 748cc L-twin was factory rated at 97 horsepower and 55 lb-ft of torque. Details include electronic fuel injection, a desmodromic valvetrain, and a two-into-one-into-two Termignoni exhaust system with twin carbon-fiber mufflers. In September 2020 the bike received replacement timing belts, spark plugs, and a coolant flush at Westedge Cycles of Seattle, Washington. The clutch fluid and engine oil were changed by Westedge in October 2021.

Power is sent to the rear wheel through a multi-plate dry clutch, a six-speed gearbox, and a drive chain.
