BaT Auction: JDM 1993 Toyota MR2 Turbo

This 1993 Toyota MR2 Turbo is a Japanese-market example that was imported to the United States in January 2021 The car is finished in blue over gray cloth and powered by a turbocharged 3S-GTE inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transaxle. Features include 15″ alloy wheels, disc brakes, and R134a air conditioning as well as a turbo timer, and the car is not equipped with a sunroof. The car was acquired by the owner in March 2021, and service under current ownership has included replacing the timing belt, water pump, oil pump, and front struts. This JDM SW20 is now offered with import documents and a Pennsylvania title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in Blue Metallic (8J2) and does not feature a sunroof. Equipment includes pop-up headlights, a front lip, integrated fog lights, a ventilated deck lid, and a rear wing. The seller states that the rear bumper was replaced and refinished due to a dent and that stone chips are present, the paint is cracking on the passenger headlight, and the clear coat is fading on the wing and deck lid. Five-spoke 15″ allow wheels show Toyota castings and are mounted with Kumho tires. The front struts were replaced in April 2021. The seller states that the power steering light is on.

The right-hand-drive cabin features bolstered seats with gray cloth upholstery and patterned inserts. The air conditioning has been converted to us R134a refrigerant, and a Turbo Timer has been added. The seller notes that the aftermarket radio is inoperable, a stain is present behind the driver seat, and that the driver-side rear pillar trim as well as the passenger door weatherstripping show wear.

An aftermarket Momo steering wheel frames a 180-km/h-mph speedometer, a 9k-rpm tachometer, and gauges to monitor boost pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 177k kilometers (~110k miles), approximately 300 miles of which have been added by the seller.

The turbocharged 2.0L 3S-GTE inline-four features dual overhead camshafts and sends power to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transaxle. Service under current ownership has included replacement of the timing belt, water pump, water bypass hose, oil pump, turbo oil drain hose, and valve cover gasket as well as changing the oil and cleaning the mass air flow sensor.
