BaT Auction: Porsche 356 Speedster Replica by Vintage Motorcars

This Porsche 356 Speedster replica was built in 2019 by Vintage Motorcars of Hawaiian Gardens, California, and was acquired by the seller in September 2021. The car is finished in Seal Gray Metallic over brown leather upholstery and is powered by a 1,914cc air-cooled flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Features include 15″ wheels, driving lights, dual Solex carburetors, four-wheel disc brakes, heated bucket seats, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, Coco mats, a vintage-look stereo, and a black soft top with a matching top boot. This Speedster replica is offered with manuals, two keys, and a bonded reconstructed Texas title listing the car as a 2019 assembled vehicle.

The fiberglass body is finished in Seal Gray Metallic gray and fitted over a shortened Volkswagen Beetle chassis. Features include side spears, a single engine-lid grille, headlight guards, gold Porsche 1600 Super and Speedster badging, body-color bumpers with chrome guards, driving lights, and teardrop-style tail lights. Close-up photos of the black convertible top are provided in the gallery below, along with a blemish on the front bumper.

Polished 15” wheels are mounted with 185/65 Blacklion Cilerro BH15 tires and come finished with removable chrome hub caps. Braking is handled by discs at all four corners.

The cabin features heated bucket seats upholstered in brown leather along with a matching upper dash, rear seat pad, door panels, and shift and parking brake boots. Gray square-weave carpets line the floor panels, and amenities include a vintage-look stereo, a passenger grab handle, lap belts, and Coco Mats floor mats.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel wears a colored Porsche-crest horn button and fronts VDO instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,200-rpm redline, and a combination gauge. The digital odometer shows under 750 miles.

The air-cooled 1,914cc flat-four was reportedly built using a new AS41 engine case with a 69mm counterweighted crankshaft, a VM2 camshaft, 94mm AA pistons, and a lightened chromoly flywheel. The engine is equipped with dual Solex carburetors, a CB Performance Magnaspark ignition system, and a 26mm Shadak oil pump with full-flow cover.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Freeway Flyer four-speed manual transaxle with a 3.88:1 final drive ratio. Additional photos of the underside are provided in the image gallery.

A replacement VIN tag has been affixed to the center tunnel near an existing VW serial number. The bonded reconstructed Texas title references the replacement VIN number and lists the car as a 2019 assembled vehicle.
