This 1966 Ford Fairlane 500 two-door hardtop was distributed through Ford’s Charlotte, North Carolina ordering district when new, and it was acquired by the seller in April 2017 as a project car. It has since undergone a custom build featuring the installation of a 347ci V8, a Tremec five-speed manual transmission, and a 9″ rear end. Additional modifications include a exterior and interior color changes, a power steering kit, updated suspension components, a four-wheel disc-brake conversion, 15″ alloy wheels, and more as described below. Driven approximately 700 miles since completion of the build, this Fairlane hardtop is now offered with a dyno sheet and a clean North Carolina title in the seller’s name.
This car was delivered new in red (T), and it was repainted in metallic gray by GunnerZ Auto Body & Paint of Denver, North Carolina during the refurbishment. Features include a pillarless roofline, fiberglass treatments for the teardrop hood and trunklid, a side-exiting exhaust system, rechromed bumpers, and tinted windows.
Staggered-width 15″ American Racing wheels feature a silver finish accented with machined lips and are fitted with Mickey Thompson tires measuring 235/60 in the front and 255/60 at the rear. Slotted and drilled disc brakes are fitted at all four corners along with Wilwood front calipers and an electronically-actuated emergency brake. The vehicle is also equipped with power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering sourced from TCI Engineering.
Replacement black upholstery with pleated inserts covers the front bucket seats and the rear bench. Additional modifications include a woodgrain steering wheel, a Hurst shifter, aftermarket pedals, and gray carpeting.
Replacement Aurora gauges feature a digital odometer indicating that nearly 700 miles have been driven since completion of the build. True mileage is unknown.
The 302ci V8 was rebuilt by Prestige Motorsports of Concord, North Carolina to a displacement of 347 cubic inches. Features include a polished air intake, a Quick Fuel carburetor, an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold and E-Street heads, and aluminum radiator, finned aluminum valve covers, and an MSD ignition system. A 2018 dyno sheet in the gallery below shows peak output of 430 horsepower and 417 lb-ft of torque.
Power is routed to the rear wheels via a Tremec TKO 600 five-speed manual transmission and a Ford 9″ third member and 4.11:1 gears. Further updates include QA1 front and rear coilover suspension with a four-link setup out back, a trunk-mounted battery, and a 22-gallon fuel tank equipped with in-tank fuel pump.
